A spectacular 8 x 8 m rug for the culturally acclaimed Hall for the Accreditation of Ambassadors in Riga Castle. Our most ambitious rug to date, the project took over a year to complete, together with designer Jan Kath. The commission was for the recreation of the original Ansis Cirulis 1923 carpet design, which was lost in World War II, solely from two surviving black-and-white photographs.Research into its elaborate patterns and colour scheme was conducted through studying the designer’s body of work, in consultation with Latvian museums and ethnographers. The new rug was woven in Nepal in one piece on the world’s largest loom.
