Tuareg

Tuareg rugs are made by Jan Kath's local partners in small manufactories in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco. The carpets, once used by nomadic Berbers to insulate their tents, are woven using traditional methods in two layers. The double layering makes the rugs particularly durable and gives them a unique tactile feel. While a flat weave known as a kilim is woven horizontally, a second kilim is simultaneously embroidered on the other side in a vertical direction.
